State of IL $100 for OIF / OEF Veterans

This passed into Illinois law:

All Illinois veterans are to receive a $100.00 check from the state. Just take a DD-214 to your nearest Illinois Veterans Affairs office, with an ID, and get your money; you have to be an OEF or OIF vet in order to receive the payment.

Please be aware the Illinois Dept of Veteran Affairs (state) is its own entity seperate from the Dept of Veterans Affairs (federal).  Be sure you do not waste your time by going to a federal office telling them you heard through email they are giving away $100, they will not know what you are talking about.  Again, this is a STATE benefit being given…. sorry, cannot stress it enough

Dan & I were at the signing of this and 21 other Veteran and Troop related Bills with Governor Patrick Quinn, It was a truly GREAT Day to be from the State of IL. Illinois Taking care of our Brave Warriors!

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Chicago, IL) — Governor Pat Quinn just signed into law a bill compensating Illinois veterans for their service during the Global War on Terrorism.

Any Illinois veteran who served on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001 is eligible to receive $100.

“We can never fully repay the debt to the service men and women who have fought for our freedom in the Global War on Terrorism,” Governor Quinn said.

The “War on Terrorism Compensation Act” will provide for Illinois veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom the same service compensation that is provided to Illinois Veterans who served in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and Operation Desert Storm.

Eligible veterans must have been residents for at least a year preceding service. Additionally, they also must still be serving, be honorably discharged, furloughed to a reserve, or be retired, and have received at least one of two medals awarded for service in the terrorism effort.

Applications must be made through the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

“We believe that the ‘War on Terrorism Compensation Act’ ensures that Illinois recognizes all veterans …,” said Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Dan Grant.

I am a Vietnam Vet and I have a form IL 497-0473 Revised 6/98…..Application for Veterans Compensation by Living Veteran….from the State of Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs……

I have filled this form out and have a copy of my DD214 to send in for the $100 Compensation offered. BUT, there is NO ADDRESS on where to mail it to!

Can you please supply me with this information?

    Thank You,

OIF stands for Operation Iraqi Freedom and OEF stands for Operation Enduring Freedom. You sir are a Vietnam Vet, not an OIF or OEF vet. Sorry.

  3. James Furlong says:

Mr. Kovar: I don’t know if you have gotten an answer to your question yet. But form IL 497-0473 is a two part form that was revised 07/09 and has an address to send the form on page 2. Here is a link to that site. http://www.veterans.illinois.gov/pdfs/bonusapp.pdf

Also OEF and OIF are acronyms for the two separate operations under the umbrella of the Global War on Terrorism (GWT). OEF is Operation Enduring Freedom (the conflict in Afghanistan) and OIF is Operation Iraqi Freedom.
